We were not looking for Harold’s Restaurant in Gaffney SC. (this is a recurring theme)
We were on our way to see a giant peach water tower, but it was overcast, so we decided to kill some time at antique malls, hoping for sunny skies later in the morning. We found a few in the same general area, Wilkins Star Vendor Market and Pieces From The Past Antiques. A plan was made to hit those two and then find some food (as usual).
That’s when we spotted it — a Food Network logo, right there in the window of Harold’s Restaurant Gaffney SC, a little brick building on N. Limestone Street.

Research began immediately. Harold’s Restaurant in Gaffney SC has been serving chili burgers since 1932 and was even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.
Research Summary: Harold’s Restaurant Gaffney SC
📍 Location: 602 N Limestone St, Gaffney SC
🍔 Known For: Chili Burger & Pinto Beans with Fatback (according to Guy)
📺 Featured On: Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
💰 Price Range: Very affordable diner-style food
⭐ Our Pick: BLT and Chicken Sandwich
A plan was then hatched on this information alone!
Guy Fieri came here, ate fatback and chili-cheese fries, and apparently salivated over it publicly. The Herald-Journal covered it. The Gaffney Ledger covered it. Twice. Harold’s framed all of it and put it on the wall and we are fully here for that energy.
Guess where we went for lunch?
Harold’s Restaurant in Gaffney SC: A Local Institution
Harold’s isn’t technically a diner, but pull up that menu and tell me it doesn’t feel like one. As a Jersey girl, diners are basically my love language, and Harold’s menu spoke fluently.
We walked in and immediately felt the vibe — this is a locals’ place. People were mid-conversation across booths, talking over each other like the walls between tables were just a suggestion. Nobody gave us a hard time about being obvious outsiders. They just let us exist in the mix, which is honestly the best kind of welcome.
Just people eating where they always eat.
Guy Fieri showing up didn’t change that. The framed articles and posters are everywhere — and honestly good for them, own that moment — but the restaurant underneath all of it is still Harold’s. Doing what it’s always done.

What We Ordered at Harold’s
We ordered lunch at Harold’s Restaurant in Gaffney SC and kept it simple.. I got a BLT — my standard diner order, my personal litmus test for any restaurant worth its salt. Bacon crisp. Tomatoes fresh. Lettuce on point. As good as a BLT gets. Zach got the chicken sandwich and had no complaints.
Now. About Guy’s featured items.
The chili burger recipe hasn’t changed in 75 years. Guy declared the pinto beans with fatback “off the hook.” The Herald-Journal headline screamed, “Fieri Salivates Over Fatback at Harold’s.”
I don’t eat chili. I don’t eat fatback. If Guy Fieri doesn’t have to eat eggs, I don’t have to try the chili. We ordered the chili cheese fries with the chili and cheese on the side. Zach said the chili tasted like oil. So. Make of that what you will.
Guy Fieri Was Here. Like, Really Here.
We expected, maybe, a photo on the wall—perhaps a small sign. What we got was Guy Fieri …. EVERYWHERE! (along with local football teams and their victories – Friday Night Lights themed corner and all – how awesome!)

Guy next to a Britney Spears tabloid headline ….wait…. I have questions. So many questions. But some mysteries are better left on the wall.
The Gaffney Ledger covered the DDD visit not once but twice — once before filming and once after. Harold’s has been feeding Gaffney since 1932. Guy Fieri rolled through, declared the fatback off the hook, and the town treated it like the event it was. We respect that completely.
Is Harold’s Restaurant Worth the Stop?
Would we go back? Yes. Without question.
I’d try a burger next time. The chili burger recipe hasn’t changed in 75 years and even if Zach’s chili-on-the-side experiment didn’t exactly thrill him, I’m curious enough about the full experience to give it a proper shot (with the chili still on the side, tho!)
That’s the kind of place worth stopping for. Trust us.
And if you’re planning a full Gaffney day, don’t miss the Peachoid — it’s literally down the road. We did both in the same morning. Also worth checking out our Reality TV Restaurant Locations page for more DDD and beyond.

Things to Do around Harold’s Restaurant Gaffney SC
Planning on making it an all-day trip? There are lots of antique stores and quaint shops in the area. Both locations are a short distance from Harold’s Restaurant.
